Methodology

NameTrendr preserves the yearly counts published by the US Social Security Administration. Rankings are computed independently for each year and sex from the published rows. Five-year and ten-year changes require the exact comparison year; missing values are not interpolated.

One canonical profile is published per spelling. Its headline metrics use the sex category with the strongest latest published count, while the chart identifies that primary series.
